Description of Participant and Expertise:
Tecnoalimenti S.C.p.A. (TCA) is a research management organisation, leader in Italy with over 20 years of activity devoted to the management of research projects in food safety and quality.
TCA is composed of 26 food sector industries and one financial institution, San Paolo IMI, as trustee of ministerial funds. Its member industries account for 12% of Italian food sales. Founded in 1981, the organisation has a record of over 400 research projects, acquiring high level skills in project set-up and management. Tecnoalimenti was founded for promoting, co-ordinating and executing industrial research, and today is the leader organisation at national level within the agro-food sector. Quality certified UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 and member of EARTO, European Association of Research and Technology Organisations. The day-by-day project management activity of Tecnoalimenti accounts for about 40 projects for a budget of about EUR 80 million, linking over 200 research participants comprising public and private research institutions.
Tecnoalimenti also managed 12 research and training projects, accounting for an overall value of EUR 55 million, belonging to the National Programme of Food Research. Further, it is involved in several on-going national projects and is also very active at European level under FP4, FP5 and FP6, in terms of support to co-ordinators or of co-ordinator. Examples are: Natural antioxidants for Olive Milling Wastewater (CT97-3039), Supervising of Food during European-wide cool transport (SFECT- IN 301009I), E-platform technologies for the European agro-food supply chain (E-MENSA-007124), Exploring bioactivity of European cereal grains for improved nutrition and health benefits (Healthgrain - IP).
